Abstract:
This research highlights the critical role that a sound government plays in achieving one of the most important Sustainable Development Goals, Goal 16, which aims to promote peaceful, just, and inclusive societies by building effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels. A sound government is considered the ideal model for achieving this goal and uprooting corruption at its source. The study provides definitions of key terms such as corruption, good governance, and sustainable development. It also examines corruption indicators that help measure its scale and scope, enabling policymakers to design and implement effective anti-corruption strategies to build a cohesive society capable of achieving various economic objectives, such as high growth rates and broad-based prosperity. The research also emphasizes the importance of studying the life of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his companions, as these early governments achieved the highest levels of welfare and integrity. Key principles derived from their governance include adherence to and respect for Sharia, careful selection of officials, the requirement for competence and integrity, as well as effective oversight and accountability. These principles offer a model for governments striving to achieve their developmental goals.
