Abstract:
This research seeks to explain the eloquence of the use of the word ma’rūf (kindness) in the prepositional phrase bil ma’rūf (with kindness; kindly), reveal its secrets and subtleties, and determine the reason for using it rather than others. The study shows the Qur’anic inimitability in its use and explains its role in spreading the spirit of love and harmony, meeting, contentment and tranquility and in developing an Islamic approach based on solid and stable foundations in dealing with Muslims as well as others. This study, which applies the integrative analytical approach, shows that the word ma’rūf appears after the preposition “ba” (with) in nineteen positions in the Holy Qur’an, eleven of which come in the context of talking about legislative rulings, especially the context of domestic relations, to indicate that ma’rūf (kindness) always remains with the believer in all circumstances. In addition, it conveys a sense of love, harmony, and unity; spreads tranquility and reassurance; and honors women and raises their status in society since the woman is the nucleus of the Muslim family. The prepositional phrase bil ma’rūf has been used in the context of rejecting bad pre-Islamic customs such as injustice and oppression. It has also been mentioned eight times in the context of praising the believers and calling for enjoining good and forbidding evil. This indicates the necessity and inevitability of enjoining good and forbidding evil.
