Abstract:
Chadian literature has established itself within Arabic literature through its unique form, content, and characteristics. The social reality depicted in the literary works of Chadian novelists closely mirrors the broader Arab experience, given its creative approach to novel writing. The Scent of the Wound, a novel by the notable Chadian author Adam Youssef has been chosen as a model for this study. The research aims to explore the role of Quranic schools in promoting noble moral values, addressing unethical practices within these schools, and highlighting character development as a core element of the novel. The study uses a descriptive and analytical approach. Among the key findings, the study concludes that The Scent of the Wound represents a recent addition to the body of Chadian Arabic literature, focusing on social, educational, and psychological issues. Quranic schools in Chad are categorized into different types: some fulfill an educational and moral role in instilling Islamic values in society, while others engage in practices that deviate from the intended goals of these schools. The character of Mahmoud, demonstrates the author’ creative skill in storytelling.
