Abstract:
Scholars who compiled the Beautiful Names of Allah gathered them from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh). They then reflected upon and conceptualized these names by observing the universe, contemplating all creatures, reflecting on human nature, and striving to fully comprehend them, thereby forming a mental image and sound rational awareness of these names. These scholars provided us with essential knowledge about these names, which every Muslim should understand to achieve a deeper awareness of Allah, Glory be to Him. Scholars have clarified the meaning of the Prophet’s saying, “Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred minus one; whoever enumerates them will enter Paradise.” They explained what a Muslim needs to know and understand about these names and attributes and the appropriate ways to use them. This study employed a descriptive methodology and reached several conclusions. One of the findings highlighted the role of cognitive linguistics in processing information and generating linguistic knowledge about what is permissible in regard to Allah’s attributes and what is not. It also emphasized that a Muslim must fully realize that it is absolutely impermissible to attribute to Allah any name that He has not attributed to Himself.
