Abstract:
Al-Muatamir bin Sulaiman At-Taimi is one of the famous controversial narrators. However, the two sheikhs narrated a number of Hadiths on his authority in their Sahihs. This research aims to present scholars’ opinions of him and to study the criticism directed to his narration in the two Sahihs or one of them in order to grasp the methodology adopted by Al-Bukhari and Muslim in dealing with his narrations. The research includes two sections. The first is the theoretical section introducing the biography of Al-Muatamir and presenting the scholars’ views of him, whether in favor or against. The second is the study of his criticized hadiths in the two Sahihs or either of them. The research concludes that Al-Muatamir ibn Sulaiman At-Taimi is one of the narrators who is criticized, however, that does not invalidate the use of his narrations. Al-Bukhari and Muslim cited him, and included some of his narrations in their Sahihs. Scholars disapprove of the two sheikhs for narrating, eight hadiths on his behalf, two of which are common in their Sahih, while Al-Bukhari narrates four more and Muslim narrates another two. The research finds that these hadiths narrated on Al-Muatamir's authority have other sources on the authority of another companion or Hadith’s narrator.
