Abstract
The book “Manar Al-Huda fi Al-Waqf wa Al-Ibtida” by Al-Ashmouni is full of issues of the science of orthography - although its main subject is explaining the pause and the start - it is distinguished from the rest of the books on pause by this feature.  No mention for issues of orthography is found in “Al-Qataa wa Al-Iettinaf” by An-Nahhas, “Al-Muktafi” by Ad-Dani, “Illal Al-Waqf” by As-Sajawandi, nor in “Al-Iqtida” by An-Nakzawi. While the introduction to the book “Al-Waqf wa Al-Ibtida” by Ibn Saadan, “Idah Al-Waqf” by Ibn Al-Anbari, and “Al-Murshid” by An-Numani, and its summary “Al-Maqsad” by Zakariya Al-Ansari, contained fragments of orthography issues related - mostly - to the interrupted and connected and the letters “ta”.
As for Al-Ashmouni, he presented many issues of the science of orthography in the introduction and in their places in the Quranic Surahs, relying on the book Al-Muqnie by Ad-Dani in orthography, as well as Nazm Al-Aqila = Ar-Ra’iyya by Ash-Shatibi, and Al-Labib’s explanation of it….
This research includes an introduction to the scholar Al-Ashmouni and his book, a review of his sources regarding issues of orthography, Al-Ashmouni’s position on explaining the phenomena of orthography, and also included a list of the issues of orthography that he mentioned with their classification. Conclusions reveal that Al-Ashmouni did not comprehensively cover the issues of orthography, moreover, there are some mistakes caused by inattentiveness. The research follows the inductive, descriptive and analytic approaches.
