Abstract:
This research aims to highlight the role of the terms of Scholastic Theology in directing doctrinal disagreement toward compromising, correcting, and responding. This research tries to practically apply the function or usage of Scholastic Theology terms as used in Al-Ghazali’s writings. Moreover, it attempts to draw the attention of researchers to the importance of the Scholastic Theology terminology; and to try to benefit from their study in providing urgent solutions to the problems of contemporary thought. The research is divided into an introduction, three sections, and a conclusion: The introduction: mentions the reason for choosing such a topic, and the research plan. The first section is entitled: The Concept of the “Scholastic Theology term” and its Importance. The second section is entitled: Al-Ghazali and his efforts in editing Scholastic Theology terms. The third section is entitled: The Application of Scholastic Theology terms and its impact on directing the doctrinal dispute according to Al-Ghazali. The conclusion mentions the most important results of the research, its recommendations, and its references. This research follows the inductive analytical approach, the descriptive approach, and the deductive approach. One of the most important results of the research is that Al-Ghazali exploited Scholastic Theology terms in directing the doctrinal dispute, and compromising different points of view; to reunite and agree upon common terms. In addition, he uses the terms to correct opinions and respond to violators.
