The Approach of Judge "Abu Yaala Al-Hanbali" (deceased 458 AH) Regarding Descriptive Attributes Analytical Critical Examination Ahmed Sayed Younis Awis Farhan Department of Creed and Philosophy, Faculty of Islamic Theology, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt Email: ahmedewais.2011@azhar.edu.eg Abstract: This research aims to discuss one of the prominent figures among the Hanbali scholars, namely Judge "Abu Yaala Al-Hanbali," who passed away in the year 458 AH. His opinions were clear and explicit in explaining the righteous predecessors' stance on the issue of descriptive attributes. The research also highlights the contrast between the stance of Al-Hashawiyyah doctrine, and Al-Hanbali and the righteous predecessors from the Ash'aris and the Maturidis regarding this matter. Moreover, the research delves into the approach adopted by Judge Abu Yaala in dealing with the issue of descriptive attributes, exploring whether he belonged to the camp of Tafweed ([1]), Taweel ([2]), or affirmation (Ithbat). The research employs an analytical critical methodology. One of the key findings of the research is that Judge Abu Yaala primarily leans towards the approaches of Taweel and Tafweed in his understanding of verses related to attributes, with a slight inclination towards Tafweed. His presentation of doctrinal opinions is influenced by dialectical methods and the works of theologians, especially Judge Al-Baqillani. The research highlights the substantial difference between the understanding of the righteous predecessors in relation to the approach of Tafweed and the understanding of the scholars of the affirmation (Ithbat) approach. The righteous predecessors entrusted the knowledge of the meaning and manner to Allah, while the proponents of affirmation only entrusted the manner and affirmed the meaning as it is to Allah. ([1] (Tafweed is affirming the wording and the meaning of the attributes, then leaving knowledge of how is it to Allah ([2]) Taweel: is to take something away from its apparent meaning، and give it another meaning or interpretation.
