Abstract
The study tries to reveal the perceptions of the Egyptian websites discourse towards Turkey’s interventions in the eastern Mediterranean to explore the frames used in them, the causes and proposed solutions frameworks, the active forces in them, the sources that were adopted, the method of coverage, the style of discourse, and the narrative patterns used, by applying to a sample of Egyptian websites: Al-Ahram Portal, Al-Wafd Portal, and Youm7 websites. The study covers the period from January 2020 to December 2021AD using the survey method (descriptive / analytical levels), the comparative approach, the method of systematic random sampling of press materials, and analyzing the quantitative and qualitative related content. The study concludes the emergence of the frames of "cooperation", "imposition of sanctions" and "illegal interventions". The discussion of the causes of the crisis tackled mainly "the dangers and challenges facing the eastern Mediterranean region", " the growth of gas and oil discoveries in this region", and "Turkey's exploration for gas and its illegal interventions in the disputed maritime borders with the countries of the eastern Mediterranean,". Discussions of the solutions included "economic and military cooperation and increase of investment in the energy field" , "imposing European sanctions on Turkey for its illegal activities in the eastern sea" and “achieving security stability in this vital region”.
The variety of news sources related to the framing of information related to these interventions was stressed by the study. The official sources of the Eastern Mediterranean countries emerged as the most important ones in revealing the countries stance towards the intervention and the reactions to the developments. The news discourse of these sites is a political discourse that is consistent with the official Egyptian, Greek and Cypriot discourse regarding tensions and interventions in the eastern Mediterranean.
