Abstract:
The present study revolves around the sayings of Imam Sufyan bin Uyaynah on ‘Al-Jarh and Ta’deel’ regarding the men of the six reliable books; the six reliable books include the two Sahihs and the Sunan compilers which are considered among the most important books of the Sunnah. Among the distinguished and eminent scholars of the science of ‘Al-Jarh and Ta’deel’ is Imam al-Hujjah Sufyan bin Uyaynah. He is an expert in the science of Hadith, and is considered one of the men of the two Sahih; he is a skilled jurist and a skilled critic of the science of ‘Ar-Rejal’ (a hadith science investigating the subtle reasons that invalidate the authenticity of hadiths). He lived in an era which witnessed a great scientific and cultural renaissance; he has witnessed a large number of caliphs, namely seven caliphs. The study adopts an inductive analytical approach. One of the most important conclusions reached is spotlighting the most prominent scholars of ‘Al-Jarh and Al-Ta’deel’ who is also the most famous narrators of the Sunnah in a specialized scientific manner.1- Extreme prudence and fear of God in explaining the condition of the narrator, and his whims do not interfere in judging the narrators 2- Most of those who were judged by Imam Sufyan bin Ayniyah were trustworthy and most of them were among the men of Sahih Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
